Prenatal Care
Your appointments will take place at one of our two office locations. Routine care is important to assess and monitor your pregnancy, and also gives us the opportunity to get to know each other, address all of you concerns, answer all of your questions, discuss your wishes for your birth and build a foundation of mutual trust and respect. We welcome your family to be involved and support their participation.
Your visits are scheduled monthly until 28 weeks, bi-weekly until 36 weeks, and then weekly until birth.
Plan to spend 45 minutes at each of your visits.
What to Expect at Your Prenatal Visits
Vital Signs
At each visit we will monitor your blood pressure and pulse.
Emotional Status
Emotions are an important factor that can impact pregnancy. These check-ins give you a safe space to discuss any concerns, struggles or needs your may have.
Urinalysis
Testing a urine sample at each visit allows us to monitor for dehydration, signs of infection, glucosuria and protein.
Fetal Position
Midwives have retained the long standing tradition of using our hands to palpate the position of babies in the womb!
Fundal Height
This measurement helps to track uterine growth throughout the pregnancy. Measured in centimeters from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus (fundus).
Nutritional Counseling
All clients should maintain a healthy diet to set the foundation for a healthy pregnancy, birth and baby! Together we’ll review your diet and help guide you nutritionally.
Fetal Heart Rate
Using a fetoscope or doppler, we are able to hear and track the fetal heart rate at every visit!
Labwork
All potential testing will be discussed with you in detail, options reviewed and time given to ask questions. We help you curate the testing that best fits your needs and family!
Questions & Answers!
Each visit offers plenty of time to answer any questions or concerns you may have! Education and informed consent is a highlight of midwifery care!
